Outplacement is the beginning of a new phase in your career

Many people view the whole outplacement process as a terrible turn in their career. Some even consider it as the end of their career. While the stress levels that attend the whole process of downsizing, corporate layoffs, and offshoring are definitely high, they don’t have to be. You have to remember that you have a lot of choice as to how you would want to respond to stresses you encounter. You can choose to get run over by circumstances, or you can choose to regain control. And nothing exemplifies this more than the outplacement process. The great thing about this process is that your former company is footing the bill for helping you get the career counseling, career assessment, job search assistance, and job search skills you need to land on your feet. You can choose to just go through the process and not take it seriously, or you can look at the whole thing as a giant opportunity. The truth is, you will have to get out there and look for a job anyway. The good news is that your old employer is giving you resources to help you find a new job. You can get expert help to do something you will have to do anyway, or you can choose to just drift through the whole outplacement process and decide to get your act together later. Your choice.

You control your response

Job loss is one of the bigger causes of stress people have in their lives. Almost everyone will have to confront this issue at one point or other in their lives. However, what separates those who land on their feet or bounce to even greater heights is their attitude. Sure, you have probably heard ‘positive mental attitude’ repeated so much that you have gotten sick of it. Sure, you might say that people who keep repeating the need for positivity aren’t going through tough times themselves. But after you go through all that negativity, you will have to go through the process of finding a job anyway so why not start the process now. Why not approach the situation from a perspective of control? By taking control of your response and by embracing the outplacement process, you are setting yourself up for future victories and successes. It is completely up to you whether this phase of your career is the end or just the beginning of a whole new amazing chapter. You control your response. Choose wisely.

Recovering from outplacement issues with the right personal coaching

Hey, it happens: companies downsize. Given how fast our economy is morphing and changing, you really can’t say that there is such a thing as a ‘secure’ job anymore. ‘Stable jobs’ that used to be the lifeblood of small towns across America are regularly being shipped overseas thanks to outsourcing. Jobs that used to be done inhouse are now farmed out to firms across the state or even to freelancers across the country. The good news is that this all part of a fast-evolving economy and just because jobs are being lost, doesn’t mean that new jobs are being created. In fact, many of the future’s jobs haven’t been created yet-that’s how fast the economy is evolving. Many downsizing companies are trying to make the lay off transition process  easier on their employees by making outplacement services available. Keep the tips below in mind on how you can take full advantage of outplacement services to help you not only land on your feet but come back stronger than ever.

It is not the end-it really isn’t

The natural reaction many people have to outplacement counselors and transition coaches is that these guys are just there to cushion the foot that will kick them out of the door. In many people’s minds, once the outplacement coaching process is over, they are facing long periods of unemployment. In other words, they think outplacement just heralds the end of their careers. Well, the truth is the end can only come about if you want it to happen. How? If you choose to believe that outplacement is just an empty ritual on your way to the poor house and long-term unemployment, you are welcome to do  that. However, if you look at the outplacement process as a free company-subsidized opportunity to beef up your skills so you can compete better in a fast-changing economy, you will definitely end up in a better place and frame of mind. Depending on your frame of mind and the attitude you choose, outplacement, far from heralding the end, can actually be ushering in a new golden era for your career.

In it to learn it

Outplacement is all about guidance and  inspiration. Sure, there are a lot of valuable career search and positioning skills you’ll get from the process such as career evaluation, helping you write better resumes, preparing for an interview, establishing career search networks, and developing targeted job search skills, but it is more than these goal-oriented skills. Above all else, the personal or group counseling you get in the outplacement process is all about restoring your confidence in yourself. Remember, you cannot keep a good person down unless the person wants to get down. It really is as simple as that. A person who has everything to live for won’t necessarily want to live unless that person has something to live from. The valuable personal or group coaching you get in the outplacement process helps you reorient your internal compass and rediscover that spark provided you with that internal push that fueled your career so far.

What about outplacement?

If you’re not familiar with the term outplacement, then you will be interested to know that this term is used when companies downsize and offer a way to help their “now” former employees a way to get reacclimated with the workforce.  Many individuals have been with companies for quite some time, perhaps even decades, but unfortunately the turn in the economy not too long ago has made many companies restructure and cut back!

When you’ve been out of the interviewing and cover letter/resume phase for quite some time then you may not know where to begin or what skills and tools you’ll even need.  This can be true for everyone who’s been out of the interviewing loop for quite some time.  There are tools online that can help you through this process such as Web sites that will offer you tips and tricks on how to write great resumes and even provide you with templates to get you started.  There are even sites devoted to prepping you for an interview and giving you ideas on what to do during one.  Many companies that let their employees go may actually give you the tools that you need to find another job in the workforce through individuals who have talent in outplacement.  They are there to offer you coaching advice and give you tips and tricks to make the transition easier.

It’s important to note that not all companies or businesses will give you this added courtesy but there are a few companies out there that are still worried about the welfare of the individuals that they laid off or let go.

There are many companies that lend their hand to businesses that are letting their employees go.  There are skilled individuals who are waiting to assist you and help you get back on your feet in a time of need.  They already know that many individuals have been with companies for quite some time and aren’t quite familiar with how the process works these days.  They are able to offer outplacement services and coaching to those who are in need and to those who would like to get back on their feet quickly whether in the same field or something different.

There is quite a bit of talent out there to help individuals overcome their misfortune.  Some people may not look towards outplacement companies to help them and instead turn to friends, family or even the internet to start their search for answers and tips and tricks.
